About Chef Andrés
An innovator, leader and long-time Fiserv client, José Andrés is a Washington, D.C.-based restaurateur. Born in Spain, where he first learned the craft of cooking from his parents, José immigrated to the United States in 1991. He and his partners established a group of restaurants that has earned countless fans and won numerous awards. His culinary accolades include two Michelin stars, four Bib Gourmands and recognition by
James Beard as Best Chef – Mid-Atlantic.
José is a visionary and humanitarian, establishing World Central Kitchen in 2010 as a means for using culinary training programs to empower communities and strengthen economies, and also provide food disaster relief in the wake of emergencies around the world. Recognition for his humanitarian work includes praise from the James Beard Foundation, which named him Humanitarian of the Year in 2018. TIME Magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in 2012 and 2018, and President Barack Obama presented him with the National Humanities Medal in 2015.
